Blue sky day

I woke up this morning at a respectable time, thanks to the Central time zone, which gave us back the hour lost to Daylight Savings! A short walk across the TransCanada, and I fulfilled a dream that has been two years in the making, after my previous visit up here with Tricia. Kakabeka Falls' smoked salmon is sold at the back of the grocery store, packaged up as a big piece of salmon, skin and all. It is sweet and salty and smoky, and is one of humanity's great achievements.

I drove the first leg of the trip today, from Kakabeka to Ignace, and enjoyed the blue skies and empty roads big time. I tried out the cruise control, and now love driving a little bit more! Lunch was rye bread, smoked salmon and OJ, enjoyed at a scenic lookout over Ignace.

Then Colin took over, and we arrived at our pal Cameal's in Sioux Lookout an hour later. It's a nice little town of 5 500, and we toured their beautiful new hospital and hiked through a snowy forest to a lake and back.

It could be Cameal's influence, but we are both feeling wholeheartedly thankful for being able to take this trip and live this adventure. Tonight we're headed to one of my hometowns, Kenora, and we'll likely stay for a day or two. I want to show Colin some of the beautiful spots that Tricia and I loved going to, and we will take some time to offer our thanks for our lives.

:) Lauren
