Hello out there,
Moving to a new place sure has opened up the floodgates of ideas of ways to have fun. Just in the past few days we have decided to:
1) Take up the sport of skijoring (from the Norwegian word meaning 'ski driving'), which involves tying yourself to a few dogs that like to pull, and cross-country skiing behind them. Whitehorse hosts the world's longest skijoring race, 160km
2) Look into the possibility of living in the hamlet of Mount Lorne, about a 30 minute drive south on the Alaska Hwy, population 370. In preparation, we are attending a community supper on Saturday night- Thai food!
3) See Timber Timbre at the Yukon Arts Centre in June (Montreal blues/folk music)
4) Become members of the Yukon Wilderness Preserve (laminated card-carrying members!)
5) Attend a talk on identifying Yukon's birds of spring at the public library tomorrow evening
6) Have a coffee and a chat with a local master gardener, to prepare for our own plot in the Whitehorse community garden
7) Take full advantage of the smoked salmon filets made here, and eat them on salads whenever possible
Bye for now,
Lauren
