So we offered you the chance to decide whether you wanted to learn about what it takes to get chicken on your kitchen table when you are not relying on a grocery store. Well polls closed and the 9 of you who voted decided that yes food is not only the tasteless over packaged crud that you get from the back of the superstore, food does come from a farm, grown by a person and the meat we eat used to be a living, eating, breathing

winter is coming
Justin and Lil are on their way back Outside, and we are quietly moving around our home, doing the things that you do after visitors leave. Some of us are reading the Yukon News and eating leftovers, and some of us are deciding which library book would go well with this cold grey afternoon and a warm red couch.
We have lots of fun times to reminisce over, including a fantastic day trip over to Kluane yesterday, Carcassone battles and some delicious meals with new recipes. The weather in Kluane was picture-perfect, and we climbed the King's Throne trail with the dogs. It was a ~500m elevation gain, and there were lakes, forests and mountains as far as the eye could see. Justin and Lil both took lots of great photos, which we hope to share with you some time soon.

A week with Jess Sellers
Jess is a good friend whom we met many years ago in the Rouge. We worked together numerous times for FRW and send postcards back and forth from our travels (Jess does a lot of traveling). So it was exciting when she said that she wanted to come up and visit us after her apple picking and pine and morel mushroom harvesting contract (with a pit stop in Toronto to change equipment, including warm clothes).
In preparation for our upcoming visitors, we salvaged wood from the Transformation Station, and built a 4-shelf unit to hold our camping gear, so that we have more room in the coat room for people's luggage. The dogs soaked up the sun as we worked in the backyard last Sunday.

A nice Saturday
We went our separate ways this Saturday- Colin to Grizzly Valley, where he helped with another chicken harvest. Lauren opted for a simpler, less grisly day, and stayed home in Mt Lorne with the doggies, and collected cranberries and read Joy of Cooking in the backyard while the clothes dried on the line.

The Arctic trails have their secret tales... but we're telling you everything!
Hello blog readers!
We arrived in Whitehorse on Sunday August 21 and were greeted by big hugs from Lauren and Colin. Already our vacation in the Yukon was off to a great start. Once we recovered our bags we made our way to our hosts' home in Mount Lorne. It is exactly what we imagined it would be - at the foot of mountains surrounded by forest and nature. There we met Smiley and Cookie for the first time. It is hard not to fall for these two girls. They greeted us with as much enthusiasm as our hosts did, and they didn't even know us.
