Back in Mt Lorne

A new blog finally, sorry for the long dry spell, but we were busy with so many Ontario resident friends and family members.

We came back to a whole lot of Yukon magic!

- big skies that make the atmosphere tinted pink
- acres of untrampled forest all around our cabin
- a kind of snowflake that forms bigger 3D snowflakes when it covers a surface
- the Lorne Mountain community centre’s ice rink is ready to be skated on!
- boot deep powder snow everywhere
- the kind of absolute quiet that takes your brain a while to comprehend
- frozen beards and eyelashes

This is what our world looked like this morning:

The dogs are happy to be with us, and haven't stood still since we picked them up last night. Well, they did sleep in their boxes and are enjoying the fresh beds of straw under their favourite trees.
Watching for Colin to come out to play

Twilight looking SSE (south south east)

It really feels as cozy as it looks! Time to go back inside
 and start enjoying those coffees.

The sun sure took it's time in rising past the tops of the trees this morning...
9:47am was when the sun cleared the trees in the yard.

Trying to get the dogs to sit still for a Christmas card photo shoot
Ready to bike-jor! Can't wait to get those cross-country skies for ski-joring
soon :) (thanks for the Christmas money, Mom and Dad Barrett!)

There is still Toronto magic hanging on around us. We had so many good times, and there will be a lot to reminisce about. We brought home some Christmas presents, and have already cozied down under our brand new Christmas quilt from Colin's family. Colin is enamored with the groomsman's axe from Steve, and is deep into The Axe Book that it came with. We have been listening to some of our great new Toronto music while unpacking and puttering.

That was such a great visit home! Thank you everyone who made some time to hang out with us. The two and a half weeks flew by in a whirlwind way. The reunions were joyous and numerous (a great combination)- it is in times like what we have just experienced that help us appreciate how incredibly special and important our friends and family are to us. This was also evident during the painful goodbyes over the last few days. In all, when we got back to our cabin in the woods, we were physically and emotionally exhausted.

We are far away from all of you again, and our hearts miss you. We are looking forward to seeing you again soon on Skype, or maybe you are one of the wonderful people who are planning on visiting us sometime in the coming year. We really appreciate the comments and facebook posts, and the conversations that ensue really help to make us feel not so far away.

Love Colin and Lauren
