Settled, unsettled

Hello down there!

We have had some blog stories to tell you lately that have just stayed in the 'draft' spot of the blog, and in the spirit of yet another clean-up-our-stuff-and-pack-and-move period coming up this weekend, here are some things we wanted to share:

Here are some pictures of the new residence of Whitehorse General Hospital. We're moving out on Saturday morning, after we attend a bicycle auction at a local arena. We will probably be sleeping in Mt Lorne on Saturday! And then adopting a sled dog on Sunday (I wish!)

This is where we went last weekend, about two and a half hours with sightseeing stops. FYI everyone, when you come to visit Yukon, we are taking you on this little trip. It's just full of the most beautiful thing to see! The US border guards are nice and reminiscent of old uncles and grandpas. And there is a ton of interesting information about the Klondike Gold Rush in Skagway, which is where Chilkoot and White Pass trails start from (the steep climbing parts of the trip from down South to the gold fields near Dawson). We are starting to think about a hiking trip along the Chilkoot Trail.

Here are some neat new words from this part of the country:
- Chilkoot
- Chilkat
- Tatshenshini
- Skookum
- Pelly
- Kokatat
- Takini

We went for a hike along the Millenium Trail tonight, and saw a bald eagle, a beaver swimming in the Yukon River, a downy woodpecker, red squirrels and a grouse. And candle snow! It's a snow formation that looks like millions of icicles all packed tight together, and it's down by the river right now. When you step on it, the icicles separate! We were talking about how this time of year is a good time to visit this place.

Goodnight all,
Lauren and Colin

  1. Hi you two
Glad you saw the back end of that bear. Whoever
purchased that camera sure made a great investment. I don't think I would have ever seen
so much of Yukon and Alaska otherwise. Hope you get settled in to the new home soon and we get to share some photos of that too.
    Cheers John & Deb
