Emotional rollercoaster!

Whew! What highs, lows, and then more highs we have been through over the past two days.

Cookie and Smiley are in the pen, napping in the shade, after a beautiful walk this morning. The weather this weekend has been incredible, with warm sun and cool breeze. The forest around us smells incredible, and the sunny spots are bursting with little wildflowers. We have spend lots of time outdoors, walking the dogs around the Robinson loop, and just feel like the luckiest people on the planet to live here.

Smiley and Cookie!

Here they are, our girls :)

Our first family car trip. They were pretty comfortable in the back of the car, and didn't bark or drool heavily. Success!

Having a snack in their new digs. Deb said that we could get animal joints from the grocery store for them to chew on to clean their teeth!

Father's Day Excitement in Lorne Mountain

Happy Father's Day to our Dads, our uncles, our bro-n-law Rob, and to all the dads.

This is the first year I have ever received a Father's Day present. It is not because we are having a kid, that is silly. However, we are expecting two young ladies to be joining our family:

Midnight Sun

Friends and family, there is nothing like the midnight sun. The light at this time of year, in this place, is something special. We are looking forward to sharing it with lots of you. It really makes you appreciate where you are on the planet, and life in general.

This weekend in Yukon is the cool international bike relay race from Haines Junction, Yukon, to Haines, Alaska (238 km). They accept teams of up to 8 riders, and people from all over the world ride bikes down Haines Highway (Hwy 3) , beside a breath-taking mountain range. We would have given you notice if this was something we were getting involved in, but lots of Yukoners that we talk to are going over there for the weekend. There seem to be more people around than usual, so the tourism season is likely underway. Some of the stores are open late, including Mac's Fireweed Books, open until 12pm.

Mt Lorne and further down the scenic route

Hello all,

Here we are again, the Monday after a fantastic weekend. Although every day feels special here, it's nice to have the time to explore together. We took these photos at our place in Mt Lorne on Friday afternoon, and over the weekend as we hiked through some local hinterland and drove a loop around some other communities:

Last few days in photos

Hello all,

We have missed writing on the blog lately, but have spent our time on some worthwhile pursuits:

We volunteered to help maintain the Annie Lake Golf Course on Saturday, a beautiful 18-hole course cleared in the 50s by Army dudes looking for some recreation while building the Alaska Highway. The course is owned by the Mt Lorne Community Association, and they held a bison-themed BBQ afterwards for volunteers. This place is awesome!

Rainy Thursday

Hello all,

Lauren has been doing a lot of the blogging lately so I was thinking that i better get back into it before I get rusty.

First off, our little house in the woods is everything we had been dreaming of. The quiet is unreal. At any given time the only things you can hear is the trees being moved by the wind, a few birds calling and maybe a few too many bugs looking for a meal. It hasn't been so bad that I have had to put on bug spray or a bug jacket, i guess my thinking is similar to the way i approach putting on my winter clothes - I don't to do it too early, so that when it really gets bad I have something to resort to.
