rink time

This evening after a two person (and two dog) bikejor, followed by a quick dinner and two absolutely wonderful phone conversations with Ontario friends filled with excitement and terrific news - we spend a couple of hours at the community center putting in a volunteer shift flooding the ice.

What you see in the photos is the work of 7 volunteers (and some staff time too) over 6 days. And we are not at the point yet when we can get the zamboni out there to help. The rink its self is fantastic and we are really excited about trying to start up a co-ed non competitive hockey night for all us rookie players.

The building in the background is called the warm-up shed. It has a few heated change rooms, a wood stove in the viewing/bench area and a sound system that plays outside. Yeah crazy fun eh, and it is all free to use at any time for members (suggested $40 a year/family or you can pay a day use fee of $5 and use the ski trails as well as the rink, and showers).

The lights are set on a timer so from 7am-11pm you can turn them on as needed (in late December it will be dark by 2:30 and during the Christmas break if you want to go for a morning skate it will be dark until after 10am).

Needless to say, if you are thinking about visiting us in the winter months, pack your skates.
