Colin is cooking up one of his delicious sweet potato and local egg fry-up for breakfast this morning, and since the dogs are wet from the rain last night and I'm still in my pajamas, I thought I'd stay indoors and write a little hello message. I'll take a few peeks out the window once in a while to see what cute things the dogs are up to, though :)
We are starting to daydream about our next visitors and the fun times that we can have- LK and JP will be here in 22 days, and Justin and Lilian will be here in 51! Jess Sellers will also be here in September. There are already a few plans in place for when LK and JP are here- we're going on the mother of all road trips up the Dempster Hwy to Inuvik, NWT:

Met the vet this morning
We got up this morning, expecting to have a nice relaxing start to the day before leaving to go to a felting workshop and go fishing with a friend. Things changed as soon as we saw Smiley running around the outside of the house! The dogs had managed to squeeze through a tiny gap in the fence overnight, after we had left them unchained, thinking that it was the right time to start giving them more freedom. Another lesson learned the hard way. Luckily, Smiley came back into the pen right away, but there was no sign of Cookie.

Yukon + Friends from home = Magic, squared
It seemed unlikely that this great place could get any better, but when we shared it with our pals last week, Yukon magic came bursting out from all over. The dogs got even cuter, the midnight sun in Dawson amazed everyone, the fireweed bloomed... what a wonderful week it was.
After a happy happy reunion at the airport, we headed back to Mt Lorne, and stopped at Kookatsoon Lake for a cold swim.

Adventures featuring Sam and Tricia and Lauren and Colin and Smiley and Cookie and Alaska and Dawson
Hello All,
Our first visitors have come and have sadly have left now, but it was a wonderful visit and a great vacation that we all took together. It seems that Samantha and Tricia both fell in love with the Yukon and the sled dogs.
We will be writing more of a commentary over the next day or so (Lauren is home sick today - so i imagine when she feels up to it, she will spend some time on the computer so that you all can follow our week-long adventure that includes a trip to Skagway Alaska, Dawson City Yukon and a kayak trip on the Yukon river from Whitehorse).
Below is a photo album for you to have a gander at. More content to come soon.

Great days and nights
There are only three days until our pals Samantha and Tricia arrive for a visit, and they are sure coming at a great time. Fireweed is blooming, there's lots of sun, the dogs are really fun and affectionate, and we just learned how to bake dandelion petal cornbread! And the dogs are great at bikejoring. We are going to bring Cookie and Smiley to Deb's together, and then head out on a roadtrip to Alaska, close to Skagway. Then we're hanging out downtown at the market with Colin, and then some fun at home, and then to Dawson!
We're going camp with Tricia and Sam near this beach in Alaska, where the gold rushers started off on the Chilkoot trail , on their way to Dawson. I hear it's less busy now This website has an archive of the Klondike Nugget, a newspaper from Dawson. This photo came from there! http://www.hougengroup.com/yukonhistory/nuggets_year/2000s.aspx?nugget=1898 |

Happy Canada Day Long Weekend
Friends and Family,
It is a beautiful day here in Lorne Mountain, the sun is shinning (it has been doing that since 4:40 this morning) and the air is warming up nicely (we are in the low double digits - but it will warm up to a bit more as the sun heats the forest floor).
The short of it all is that we are in love with our Yukon lives. The absolute silence of our home (roaring subways is a distant memory now), spectacular views out every window and fantastic places and people to visit. On a walk around our 'P shaped' street we can see 3 different mountain ranges, two of which have fresh snow on the peaks (the snow fell Wednesday night), there are two large rivers a short drive from our house (the mighty Yukon which flows from Marsh Lake to the east and to the west is the fast flowing glacier fed Wheaton River) a stunning emerald coloured lake, and more flowers then we thought could be possible in the Boreal forest.
