Happy Canada Day Long Weekend

Friends and Family,

It is a beautiful day here in Lorne Mountain, the sun is shinning (it has been doing that since 4:40 this morning) and the air is warming up nicely (we are in the low double digits - but it will warm up to a bit more as the sun heats the forest floor).

The short of it all is that we are in love with our Yukon lives. The absolute silence of our home (roaring subways is a distant memory now), spectacular views out every window and fantastic places and people to visit. On a walk around our 'P shaped' street we can see 3 different mountain ranges, two of which have fresh snow on the peaks (the snow fell Wednesday night), there are two large rivers a short drive from our house (the mighty Yukon which flows from Marsh Lake to the east and to the west is the fast flowing glacier fed Wheaton River) a stunning emerald coloured lake, and more flowers then we thought could be possible in the Boreal forest.

Canada Day after celebrations we fantastic right in our Hamlet of Mount Lorne. Colin volunteered in the kitchen to help get ready and maned the veggie bbq, it was a pot luck salads and deserts meal with free bison sausages and burgers, amazing vegan burgers (i need that recipe) and all the other favorites for a family friendly bbq. After the meal there was a top notch music show put on my local youth. But there was no kind claps for the kids, there is amazing talent here. Fiddlers, singers, pianists, guitar players all amazing!

We really miss all our wonderful friends and of course the family (especially on long weekends like Canada Day) but this place is very special and we hope to share it with you all. So far every time of the year is a good time of the year to visit the Yukon ( we are 3 months and counting now).

Bye fir now.

Colin and Lauren

PS- We're taking our doggies out on their first hike this morning! We're leaving from our place (the green star on the map below), and heading southeast towards the greenspace beside Lot 4 in Robinson. Then we're taking the trail that winds up to the top of Mt Lorne. The hike to the summit and back is about a 10 hour trip, so we're just going to go as far as we can. Although with dogs that like to pull as much as ours, we might be able to make it up and back in record time!
